Digital Sydney offers a wealth of resources for digital media professionals. There are grants and funding opportunities, research facilities and both government and industry bodies looking to partner with digitally-savvy individuals and businesses for projects small and large. As Digital Sydney grows, so will the resources available to its community.
Digital Sydney is an industry community that provides a space for digital media professionals, digital agencies, technology companies and educational institutions to collaborate on projects, showcase their work and to network with other digital media and ICT specialists.
Digital Sydney is all about expanding the digital marketplace to provide and support employment and encourage investment, participation and collaboration within Sydney and NSW’s broad digital ecosystem.
The community is guided by a network of experienced digital media industry professionals and funded by the NSW Office of Trade, Business & Industry.
The Australian Centre for Broadband Innovation (ACBI) was launched at Marsfield in Sydney in December 2010 to help NSW capitalise on the National Broadband Network.
It will provide a large-scale tested network including fibre, wireless and (eventually) satellite access allowing the creation of innovative broadband-enabled services and their demonstration and testing in a real world situation.
A joint initiative between the NSW Government and research organisations CSIRO and NICTA (National ICT Australia), the ACBI has been established with $7.5 million over three years contributed by the NSW Government and matching in-kind support provided from the CSIRO and NICTA.
The centre will work with industry to create and deliver breakthrough broadband applications in digital media and interactive broadcasting, in telehealth and e-health technologies, in infrastructure such as smart grid and in e-Government.
The Digital Media Initiative is funded by the NSW Government to the tune of $1.5 million a year for three years. It is designed to support digital media, specifically commercially-oriented projects for distribution on internet, wireless, mobile, other emerging platforms or devices.
Applications for funding are invited from NSW-registered businesses that have at least one person with a significant credit in the digital media area. The Digital Media Initiative can provide support from early stage development up to completion of a functioning prototype, or funding can be used to take a market-ready project into production.
