BACKGROUND

Digital Sydney background

‘Digital Sydney’ addresses industry recommendations around the need for a “Digital Hub”. It will facilitate the NSW market’s development of strong collaboration between the Information & Communications Technology (ICT) and Creative Sectors and expansion of the digital media market place in NSW.

Digital Sydney aims to promote Sydney’s status as a global centre for the digital economy, foster collaboration between the ICT sector and the Creative Industries and expand the digital media market place in NSW. This strategy is driven by the two sectors converging as arts and entertainment move online. Whilst the brand states Sydney, the collaboration and benefits for the sectors will be state-wide.

Brand Sydney background

Brand Sydney is an initiative of a group of business and industry leaders. Brand Sydney is a design identity developed for use by this group's members to promote Sydney internationally in a cohesive, purposeful manner. Brand Sydney is the way forward in terms of collective branding.

Our brand is Sydney and internationally, Sydney is synonymous with Australia. Sydney is consistently ranked the Number 1 city in the world and incorporating it into our branding takes advantage of this tremendous appeal.

A Digital Sydney brand extension is now required to help foster, build and promote Sydney»s broad digital ecosystem.

Key message

The one thing we want our audiences to believe when seeing the Digital Sydney visual identity:

BELIEVE that Sydney is a global centre for the digital creative economy and houses world-class talent and businesses.

SCOPE

An identity is required for Digital Sydney that compliments Brand Sydney’s, but establishes a prominent and effective identity of its own.

Essentially we are looking for a ‘Digital Sydney’ extension of Brand Sydney and require a visual identity that reflects our objective to help foster, build and promote Sydney’s broad digital ecosystem.

Deliverables

Create a visual identity for the Digital Sydney execution of Brand Sydney and demonstrate its application through the following components:

  • A Creative rationale (no more than one page)
  • 1 x Home page design for www.digitalsydney.com
  • 1 x online advertisement.

    Please submit 2 sizes to demonstrate how it will translate for Leaderboard and Island formats:

    • Leaderboard  728 x 90 pixels
    • Square Island 250 x 250 pixels
  • The ad should be designed with a maximum file size of 50K in mind.
  • If you intend to animate your ad, please provide a storyboard to show transitions
  • Copy for the Advert is as located at Annex A

Please include in the submission, a profile of the individual/company and details of key personnel that worked on the project

It is compulsory that you declare if you work (employee, contractor etc) for a company or organisation represented on the Digital Sydney Advisory Team (see About Us). Failure to do so will lead to automatic disqualification. Where entries are received from individuals that work for a company or organisation represented on the Digital Sydney Advisory Team, then that particular Advisory Team member will absent themselves from judging these entries.

The winner will be required to provide final designs to Digital Sydney. Details of these requirements can be found in Annex A.
